The Far Eastern Memorial Foundation (FEMF), a member of the Far Eastern Group in Taiwan, established the Far Eastern Architectural Design Award (FEADA) to reward professionals’ outstanding achievements in architectural design. The prize is designated to encourage talented architects and architectural designers to create innovative designs and pursue breakthroughs in the field of architecture both at home and abroad. It also aims to promote sustainable redevelopments and to enhance communications and collaborations between architects in Taiwan and Mainland China.

In 2014, at the invitation of renowned Japanese architect Professor DAN NORIHIKO (團紀彥), Far Eastern Architectural Design Award cooperated with the Asian Contest of the Architectural Rookie’s Award, organized by the executive committee of Asian Architecture Rookie Awards to add “SHINJINSEN in Taiwan” -- The Far Eastern Architectural Young Talent Award (“FEAYTA”). After five years of sponsoring FEAYTA.

遠東集團－徐元智先生紀念基金會為鼓勵優秀建築設計人才，倡導整體環境再造，並引導國際建築界對台灣建築發展趨勢之重視，特籌設此獎座。近年擴大獎勵海峽兩岸優秀建築人才從事設計創作，追求突破與創新，並期經由本獎項之評審，加強海峽兩岸建築設計之相互了解、進而交流合作。


遠東建築獎於2014年應日本建築名家團紀彥先生之邀，首度與多位日本建築名家組成的亞洲建築新人戰實行委員會所舉辦的亞洲建築新人戰合作，增設【亞洲建築新人戰在台灣】遠東建築新人獎) 。
